Platform Statement
The AAPA House of Delegates (HOD) holds an importance place in our profession, as the representative body of the profession, crafting the policies that continue to support the work that we do everyday. Over the years the HOD has voted on many important topics, including more recently the title change to physician associate, and philosophies on the optimal practice environments to ensure access to high-quality care. I have been a part of all of these conversations in some fashion for over 12 years as a delegate, chief delegate, or member of the AAPA Board of Directors.
We must continue to advance our profession and to ensure that the policies of the AAPA reflect that. As AAPA President I took a stand against the AMA and their scope creep campaign, against decisions made by governmental agencies that were not rooted in evidence based medicine, and against violence in the healthcare space. We have to ensure that AAPA continues to have policies in place to back up such stands, and also is proactive in addressing issues, not reactive.
Having just recently served as President of the AAPA, I am intimately aware of the nuances of the operations of the AAPA and am best positioned to share that information with the HOD when appropriate. Throughout my journey of professional engagement, I have been involved in a number of ways including through leadership of ConnAPA, culminating as President for two terms, and continue to serve as the Chair of the Legislative Committee. I understand the needs of our state to represent that in the HOD. As well, I have served on most of the commissions and committees in the AAPA, including HOD leadership as a member and then chair of the reference committee. Given my experience I have the ability to have the conversations that matter to move efforts forward and represent our state appropriate. I would be honored to once again return to the HOD to serve our membership.
