Governor Lamont signs bill redefining PA/MD relationship

Posted

ConnAPA has successfully completed its work to change the PA/MD relationship.

On July 9, 2019, Gov. Ned Lamont signed into law Public Act 19-144, “An Act Concerning A Collaborative Relationship Between Physician Assistants and Physicians.”

This act removes that PAs are in a “dependent” relationship with physicians and instead are in a “collaborative” relationship. By redefining our relationship, we now use a term that is more reflective of our actual interactions daily with the physicians with whom we work alongside. This seemingly “small” change now helps pave the way for meaningful updates that will modernize our governing statutes so that we can eliminate administrative burden and improve access to cost-effective, high-quality healthcare.
Thanks to all who helped by testifying or writing or calling their legislators. We could not have done it without your help.
