CT Legislature Passes Opioid and Access to Overdose Reversal Drugs Bill

Posted

Attention CT PAs.

A new bill, which affects all licensed practitioners in CT, including PAs, has been enacted that, among other things, allows such practitioners to prescribe, dispense and administer an opioid antagonist (naloxone hydrochloride or any other similarly acting drug) without being liable for damages.

As a reminder, state statutes require all prescribers with a Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration to be enrolled with Prescription Monitoring Program. The program was recently updated and your existing registration has been moved to the new website at https://connecticut.pmpaware.net, where a new enrollment can be made as well.

Please familiarize yourself with all the specifics of the new law, including the dates of the implementation of the the various parts of the law.
